Myths In Mental Health Stigma. My 4th myth regards the idea that medication induces a zombie state in schizophrenia. Actually, I think highs and lows of mood and mental pace and attention quality (zombie zone out) are a natural part of the experience of mental health issues in general.

I think it is natural to go from a high paced crisis to a longer low period.

BC Schizophrenia Society is running a campaign to raise awareness about myths and facts regarding schizophrenia. https://www.bcss.org/education/about-mental-illness/bust-a-schizophrenia-myth/

My myth today for Bust A Schizophrenia Myth BC, the campaign the BC Schizophrenia Society is putting on, is that medication makes schizophrenics zombies.

The only problem is that today I feel kind of like a zombie. The day began with rapid thinking, but now I feel lazy. I feel distracted. I feel pre-occupied. I'm also pretty sure being a zombie is just another symptom of schizophrenia. Same with rapid thinking, same with all sorts of mood and attentional symptoms. I want to talk about how medication does not make schizophrenics zombies.

Um… Insomnia will make a person lethargic, and pretty much anyone who goes to a psych ward, and gets medicated, and has a crisis moment. After they leave care, like urgent care, and get into long-term care, it's really common to feel sluggish and apathetic and low-energy.
